QA Engineering for a Multi-Platform Streaming Solution

ABOUT THE PROJECT

A global provider of viewer interaction and monetization technology for TV, mobile, and web platforms needed a dedicated QA partner. Their product — an interactive overlay solution — powers audience engagement and monetization for content providers worldwide, supporting use cases from children's educational content to live advertising.

Business Objectives

01Ensure platform stability and consistent functionality across all supported devices and operating systems.

02Validate interactive overlay content against design and requirement standards.

03Test server capacity under high user loads to confirm infrastructure meets acceptance criteria.

04Improve QA and development workflows through better documentation and cross-team collaboration.

Process Overview

Regression & Smoke Testing Built test suites to validate app functionality before each release across all supported platforms.

Cross-platform Debugging Set up and operated debugging workflows in Android Studio, Xcode, Tizen Studio, and WebOS IDE, including simulator support for faster defect isolation.

Performance Testing Developed load testing scripts in JMeter and K6, deployed on Azure and AWS virtual machines to benchmark server behavior under peak load.

Documentation & Collaboration Rebuilt product and technical documentation in Notion; established structured communication between QA, development, DevOps, design, and business teams.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge 1 — Server stability under load The platform required consistent low-latency connections during high-traffic events. We modeled real-world peak conditions using JMeter and K6, running tests on provisioned cloud infrastructure until we identified the failure threshold and confirmed the system met acceptance criteria.

Challenge 2 — Cross-platform functional consistency Interactive content had to behave identically across a fragmented device ecosystem. We addressed this through systematic cross-platform test suites and expanded debugging tooling that reduced time-to-isolation for device-specific defects.

Technology Stack

Project Management: Jira, Asana, Trello, Airtable

API Testing: Postman, Swagger

Test Management: QASE, Notion

Performance Testing: JMeter, K6

Dev Environments: Xcode, Android Studio, Visual Studio, WebOS IDE, Tizen Studio

Traffic Inspection: OkHttp, Proxyman, Charles

Devices: LG, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Hisense

Monitoring: Grafana

Cloud: Azure: AWS

Dev Tooling: Terminal, DevTools, Git

Result

  • Enhanced platform reliability across web, mobile, and TV
  • Verified cross-platform compatibility on all supported devices and OS
  • Improved QA and development workflows with cleaner documentation and stronger team alignment
  • Infrastructure validated to handle high concurrent user loads

Delivery Summary

A platform stress-tested against real-world conditions — verified across every supported device, with a performance ceiling they knew and trusted. Beyond the product itself, the client left with a functioning QA process: documented, repeatable, and built to scale alongside their roadmap.
